Q. Can I install or remove a single Works component after Setup?

A. Works provides a Maintenance Mode Setup option so you can add or remove components at a later date. To start maintenance mode setup in Windows 95 do the following:

1. Click the Start Button

2. Point to Programs

3. Point to Microsoft Works 4.0,

4. Click Microsoft Works 4.0 Setup

Q. How do I remove Works from my computer?

A. To remove Works for Windows from your hard disk in Windows 95, use the following procedure:

1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

3. Click the Install/Uninstall tab.

4. On the Software List, click Microsoft Works 4.5.

5. Click Add/Remove. This starts Works Setup.

6. Click Remove All. When you are asked if you are sure you want to remove the program, Click Yes.

Q. What types of file formats can I use to save my Works word processing document?

A. Works supplies converters to save files in the following file formats:

-Works 4.x for Windows (.wps)

-Works 3.0 for Windows (.wps)
-Works 2.0 for Windows (.wps)
-Works for MS-DOS (.wps)

-Word 6.0/95 (.doc)
-Text (.txt)
-Rich Text Format (.rtf)
-Word 2.x for Windows (.doc)
-WordPerfect 5.x (.doc)
-Windows Write 3.0 (.wri)
-Works 3.0 for Mac (.wp)

-Word 3.0-6.0 for MS-DOS (.doc)
-Works 4.0 for Mac (.wp)

Q. How do I change the default tab in the Works 4.0 Task Launcher?

A. To change the default tab of the Task Launcher, do the following:

a. On the Tools menu, click Options.

b. On the View tab of the Options dialog box, change the Launcher
Startup Tab selection, and then click OK.

Q. What spreadsheet formats does Works support?

A. Works for Windows, version 4.5, can save and open spreadsheets in the following formats:

- Microsoft Excel 4.0 and 5.0
- Lotus 1-2-3 2.x
- Microsoft Works for Windows 2.0 and 3.0
- Microsoft Works for MS-DOS 1.0-3.0
- Microsoft Works for the Macintosh 3.0

Q. How do I import documents from another spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel?

A. To open a document that is directly supported by Microsoft Works, do the following:

1. On the File menu, click Open.

2. Click the Files Of Type box, and then click the appropriate file type.

3. Double-click the file you want to open.

Q. In Works 4.x, what causes the message "Can't place a call on this TAPI line"?

A. If you have an internal modem and you receive this error message, Windows is unable to communicate with your modem. Check the modem settings in the Windows Control Panel to make sure the modem is installed correctly. If you have an external modem and receive this error message, check all cable connections and make sure the modem is turned on. If everything appears correct, check the modem settings in the Windows Control Panel. This problem also occurs if you have other communications software, such as fax software configured to receive incoming faxes, running in the background You must close the other communications software before you can use the Works 4.x Communications module.

Q. When I download files from a service or another computer, where do they go?

When you download or receive a file from a bulletin board, or another computer, the files are placed in the directory or folder you specified as your download directory. To find this information, do the following:

- on the Settings menu, click Transfer.

- If you want to change the location, click the Directory button, and specify a different folder or directory.
