NOTE: You, the customer, are solely responsible for data security. WinBook strongly recommends that you perform a backup of all personal data contained on your system prior to performing this procedure. Warning: WinBook will NOT be held responsible for any data loss incurred during this process.

1. Remove Keyboard Lock Strip

After removing the trackball from its package, locate the 1/4" wide strip above the keyboard (is says On/Off on the right). Make sure the WinBook XP is turned off. Place a couple of your left hand fingers in the middle of the strip and your right-hand thumb by the On/Off print. Press down with the fingers of your left and pull to the right with your right thumb. The strip will slide to the right about one-quarter inch. Lift the strip off.

2. Carefully Lift Keyboard

Lift on the back edge of the keyboard (the edge away from you) and gently pull it out, but no too far, as there are cables attached.

3. Gently Lean Keyboard Against Lid

Rotate the face of the keyboard away from you and lean it (keys to the back) against the LCD screen while you install the trackball.

4. Carefully Lift Button Pad From Slot

Locate and lift out the panel with the two red buttons at the center of the palm rest. Do not lift out too far, as there is a cable attached.

5. Remove Wire Plug From Socket

Remove the wire plug from its socket underneath the two button pad. Try no to pull on the wires but rather separate the center of the plug from the socket by gently pushing between them with your fingernail.

6. Plug Wires Into Trackball

Plug the wires into the socket underneath the right hand side of the trackball. Be careful to keep the plug straight and not force it into the socket.

Note: the red wire goes to your left

7. Insert Trackball Panel Into Slot

Place the bottom of the trackball unit (the end where the tabs are) into the opening at an angle, then lay it down into the opening.

8. Carefully Replace Keyboard

Caution: Be careful of the cables during this process.

Insert the bottom edge of the keyboard back into the opening then lay it down, making sure to fold the cables back into their original position and not crimp them.

9. Replace Keyboard Lock Strip

Situate the cover strip back at the center of the keyboard, with about a quarter-inch hanging over the right side. Gently press near the middle, moving the strip to the left, snapping it back into place. Now start your WinBook XP and verify that everything is operating properly.
