NOTE: You, the customer, are solely responsible for data security.

this process.

To complete this procedure you will need
the following materials.
- Windows 95 Boot Disk for Notebook Computers
- Microsoft Windows 95 CD
- Microsoft Windows 95 users manual with
Product ID
- Go to Start, Shutdown, Choose the shutdown
and restart in Msdos mode option.
- At the dos prompt type cd\ and
press enter.
- You should be at a C:\> Prompt. Type
attrib -s -h -r msdos.sys and press ENTER.
- Type in del msdos.sys and press
ENTER.
- Type copy c:\windows\command\deltree.exe
and press enter.
- Then type deltree windows and press
enter. The computer will ask you to confirm deletion, say yes.
- After the unit goes back to a C prompt
(c:\>) power the unit down.
- Boot the unit with the Windows 95 boot
disk in the floppy drive.
- The unit will boot to a menu.
- Choose the option that says reinstall
Windows 95
- Windows will ask you to accept the licensing
agreement, say yes.
- Next Windows will want to know what type
of install you want tell it Typical.
- Windows will then ask for your Certificate
of Authenticity number from the front of your Windows 95 manual. Enter
the number.
- Windows will then analyze your computer
and give you a series of check boxes for equipment.
- Do not select any of the boxes.
- Windows will then ask you what components
to install. Tell it the most common components.
- Windows will then finish the install.
- Reboot your computer after Windows is
done installing.
Set display properties:
- Press Start, then go to Settings, and
then press Control Panel.
- Double click on the Control Panel icon.
- Double click on the Display icon.
- Click on the Settings tab.
- Change the Screen Area from 640X480 to
800X600.
- Click the Apply button.
- When asked to change the monitor type,
click on the Yes button.
- Under the Models find the Laptop Display
Panel (800X600) entry.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the OK button again.
- Click on the OK again to keep the new
settings.
- Finally click on the OK button to close
the display properties.
Reinstall the sound card driver:
- Press Start, then go to Settings, and
then press Control Panel.
- Double Click on the System icon.
- Click on the Device Manager tab.
- You should see ? - Other Devices in the
device listing.
- Double click on Other devices so that
you see a sub category which says Unknown Device. Click on the Unknown
Device to highlight it, then click on Remove (on the bottom of the System
Properties window).
- Go to the Start button and click shutdown.
- On the Shutdown menu, select restart the
computer.
- When unit is rebooting Windows 95 will
find new hardware called Unknown Device and ask for a driver disk. Get
the Driver disk, that came with your WinBook, labeled "Windows
95 Drivers for WinBook XP5 Pro".
- Insert driver disk in floppy drive, and
click on next. Windows will not find the driver on the disk.
You will be given an option for searching Other locations.
- Click on Other Locations and it will give
you a field in which to type the path. Type a:\audio in the path
area and click on OK. Click on the Next button.
- The computer will find the ESS 1888 Audio
drive and you should now prompt you to select Finish to complete the
installation.
- You will then be prompted to restart the
computer for the changes to take effect. Click on Yes, restart my computer
now.
- Once the computer is restarted you should
have sound.
Enable PCMCIA support:
- Press Start, then go to settings, and
then press Control Panel.
- Double click on the System icon.
- Click on the Device Manager tab.
- You should see an X through the icon next
to Cirrus Logic PCIC compatible PCI to PCMCIA bridge.
- Double click on Cirrus Logic PCIC compatible
PCI to PCMCIA bridge.
- Click on Disable in this hardware profile,
this should remove the check mark.
- Make sure there is a check mark in Exists
in all hardware profiles, if not, click in this box to put the check
mark in it.
- Click on OK.
- Make sure the No is highlighted then,
click on the Next icon from the Welcome to the PC Card (PCMCIA) Wizard
screen.
- Make sure the No is highlighted then,
click on the Next icon from the PC Card (PCMCIA) Wizard screen.
- Click on the Finish button.
- Click on the Yes button to shut down your
computer now.
- Power the computer back on and once it
is done booting, insert your PCMCIA card.
You will then be prompted that Windows has
found new hardware. Windows will then prompt you to insert a disk containing
drivers for your PCMCIA card. At this point, follow the instructions that
came with your PCMCIA card and finish the installation.
